Layers of Flavor

When I cook I attempt to layer in several flavors, but done in such a way no one flavor over shines the rest.

The good example is Breaded and fried anything. I always add Salt and pepper to my flour, to the egg wash I add Onion and Garlic powder, and to the Breading I will almost always use some Cajun Spice mix or Italian seasoning. And when it's done cooking I always sprinkle it with a little popcorn salt.

So here is my Breading Recipe for most everything I bread and fry:

Flour:

  • 1/2 cup all purpose Flour
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/4 tsp fresh cracked pepper
  • Mix
Egg wash:
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp Garlic powder
  • 5 Tbsp of chicken broth (or veggie broth)
  • Put all in blender and blend till smooth
Bread crumbs:
  • 1/2 cup plain bread crumbs
  • 1 Tbsp of Spices of your choice.
  • Mix

As you can see each layer has some flavor added to it, and the pinch of popcorn salt at the end just seems to tie it all together
